Fairy ,Fay, Fae, Fey, Fair Folk, Faerie, Little People and Hidden People are the names given to the spirits of the forest found in the folklore of many European cultures.
In the most narratives, fairies are described as human in appearance and having magical powers with the ability to change size and able to perch on ragwort stems or the backs of birds. They could be devious and beautiful or hideous and benevolent. These (sometimes) tiny people were believed to be both beneficial and harmful to humans depending on their mood.
The only thing we can be really sure about them was once whispered to us by those who faced their fury: do not mess with the Fae.
